Top Movies of 2005

(this is repost as the previous version of this got corrupted somehow)

Putting together a list of my top 10 movies of the year has been impossible. For the simple fact that this year Hollywood and friends have produced a crop of crap movies. BUT, there have been a few glimmers of light through it all. What i've done is 2 charts of my favourite movies on the big screen and on video, and also my least favourite movies where I think they would have done better in spending the money on the needy and insane!

Top Movies 2005(Big Screen)
1) Star Wars Episode III (wonderful special effects)
2) War of the Worlds (surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did)
3) The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
4) Wallace and Grommit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit(genuine British movie)
5) Serenity (entertaining, but really the best of a bad lot)

Worst Movies 2005(Big Screen)
5) Batman Begins (real disappointment)
4) Fantastic Four (weak, weak, weak)
3) The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (abismal - ruined one of my favourite novels)
2) Shark Tale (what was the point, Will Smith couldn't inject any life into this)
1) Madagascar (is it possible to have a worse movie than Shark Tale? oh yes)

...you do need to bare in mind that much of my movie watching included young kids being present...

Top Movies 2005 (DVD)
1) Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind (I am surprised how much I loved this)
2) Shaun of the Dead (cafe ole its for you.....)
3) Sin City
4) Kung Foo Hustle
5) The Wedding Crashers (this movie was sooooo wrong!)
(also noteable were Hitch with Will Smith, and Ray, the life story of Ray Charles)

Bottom Movies 2005 (DVD)
8) Sahara (bland and benine)
7) Night Watch (didnt live up to the hype)
6) Flight of the Pheonix (why bother)
5) Life Aquatic (didnt ring my bell at all)
4) The Phantom of the Opera (just naff)
3) Stealth (yawn Broken Arrow yawn)
2) Taxi (really crap remake of a French classic, see the original!!!!)
1) Mr & Mrs Smith (should be ashamed of themselves)

I'm sure many would disagree with my take on these movies, but thats what makes the world go round. I haven't seen the Peter Jackson take on King Kong although I have heard it is very good. Easily my biggest surprise this year has been the quality story and direction that went into "The Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind " it was shear brilliance. It was clever, funny, emmotional and romantic. That said I think my favourite movie overall has got to be the final Star Wars movie, just because George Lucas has finally made up for the abomination of that Phantom Menace movie!!(check out the link). All I can add to this is as least i've had LOST to keep me entertained this year. (check out the uk website link its ace, click on step into the unconscious)

the winner !!
